Lithium Batteries for Campervans
Lithium leisure batteries that turn a weekend tour into a working week away.
TITAN 12V LiFePO4 for towed caravans (Eddis, Bailey, Coachman, Lunar, Swift, Buerstner) and small campervan conversions (VW T6, Ford Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Citroen Dispatch). Same hand-built TITAN construction as the big motorhome packs, sized for the typical leisure-vehicle battery box and the typical weekend-touring duty cycle. Heated for UK winters, app-monitored, lifetime warranty.
A leisure battery that takes the touring season in its stride.
Most caravans and small campervans spend nine months a year sat on a drive between trips. The leisure battery is dormant, slowly self-discharging, sulphating quietly inside an AGM case. Then you tow it out for a week, draw it hard for three days, drive home, plug it back on hookup and wonder why it never seems to give what it gave a year ago. That's the lead-acid story.
Lithium kills that pattern. LiFePO4 self-discharges at ~2% a month versus 5-15% for AGM. There's no sulphation - if you charge it to a sensible storage SOC before you put the van away, the battery is in the same shape next May. Cycle life is 3,000-5,000 to 80%, so a typical weekend-tourer duty (50-80 cycles a year) is well inside our 15-30 year expected lifespan.
The TITAN BMS is the bit that earns its keep on the road. The heater pad triggers when the cells go below 0°C so you can charge from your hookup or your tow-vehicle through a January frost. It uses the incoming charge current first, and only draws up to 3.6A from the pack itself if more energy is needed to bring the cells up to temperature. The active balancer keeps cell voltages within 5mV so the bank doesn't drift after winter storage. And the Bluetooth comms feed into the TITAN App V2 - live SOC, daily Ah usage, parallel-bank monitoring if you've twinned batteries.
Every battery passes through end-pack QC in Cheltenham before it ships. Lifetime warranty, fully transferable.
Where the battery lives in a caravan or small camper.
Most touring caravans (Eddis Avante, Bailey Pegasus / Phoenix / Discovery, Coachman Acadia, Lunar Quasar, Swift Challenger, Buerstner Premio) house the leisure battery in a vented battery box - either inside the front locker on a shelf, or in a dedicated under-floor battery compartment. The standard footprint is DIN 027 / Type 6 (250mm x 175mm x 190mm), which our TITAN 12V 80Ah drops straight into. For caravans with a larger box (most fixed-bed twin-axle layouts), the TITAN 12V 105Ah in the DIN 096 footprint is the popular fit.
Smaller campervan conversions (VW T6 with a swivel-seat base, Ford Custom, Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault Trafic, Citroen Dispatch) typically use the same DIN 096 footprint under the seat or behind the bulkhead. Self-builders without a factory battery tray usually mount the TITAN on a marine ply base inside a cabinet and secure it with our heavy-duty tie-down strap kit.
The physical install is broadly identical to swapping an AGM - same positive and negative terminal layout, same DIN box dimensions, same wiring. Most installs are a 15-20 minute swap. If you're switching from lead-acid you should know that TITAN's BMS works fine with the older fixed-voltage AGM chargers fitted in most caravans (Schaudt, CBE, Sargent) - no need to swap the charger to make it work. A more modern lithium-aware charger will charge faster and finish more cleanly if you'd like the upgrade. The charger compatibility page lists the recommended setting per brand.
Sizing for caravans and small campers.
Caravans and small campervans tend to draw less than the bigger motorhomes - the loads are lighter (no diesel heater on most caravans, less inverter use), and most stops have access to a hookup at some point in the trip. Typical sizing:
- Tourer who mostly stays on hookup, off-grid 1-2 nights a trip: 80-105Ah is plenty
- Tourer who wants 4-5 days off-grid, fridge + lights + USB + occasional kettle on inverter: 105-150Ah
- Twin-axle tourer with bigger inverter, week or more off-grid: 150-180Ah or twin 105Ah in parallel
- Small campervan, weekend / week tours, hookup most nights: 80-105Ah
- Small campervan, regular off-grid use, fridge running: 105-150Ah
The battery size calculator takes you through the loads in your specific setup - fridge, lights, water pump, kettle, hairdryer, TV - and returns a recommended TITAN model. Two minutes.
The questions caravanners and small-camper owners ask.
Will a TITAN fit my caravan's battery box?
Will my caravan's existing charger work with lithium?
How does the cold weather heater work?
What about winter storage on the drive?
Can the tow-vehicle alternator charge it on the road?
Do I need to tell my insurer if I swap to lithium?
Can I parallel two TITANs in the same caravan?
Your van or caravan. The right TITAN.
