The lithium battery for your Roller Team motorhome.

Roller Team builds a broad Italian range sold across UK dealers, from the compact Kronos and Livingstone to the flagship Pegaso A-class. Every model leaves the factory on a single lead-acid you can only half use. A TITAN DIN lithium drops into the same locker, gives you close to the full rated capacity every cycle, and is built to last the life of the motorhome rather than a few seasons.

Two platforms, six ranges, one battery question

Roller Team is an Italian motorhome manufacturer, part of the Trigano Group, and sold in the UK through a network of franchised dealers. The current UK range splits cleanly across two base vehicles, and that split matters when it comes to alternator charging and battery fitment: Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue for the Zefiro, Auto-Roller and Kronos; Fiat Ducato for the T-Line, Pegaso and Livingstone.

Both platforms run smart alternators on their current Euro 6 engines, so the charging advice is the same whichever base you have: you need a DC-DC battery-to-battery charger to fill a lithium battery reliably from the engine. What differs between ranges is the payload budget, the locker dimensions and how much battery the lifestyle genuinely needs - which is why we size by range rather than by platform alone.

Every Roller Team leaves the factory with a single 90Ah to 110Ah lead-acid or AGM. That sounds sufficient until you realise you can only safely use around half of it before you start damaging the battery. A TITAN lithium of the same or similar footprint gives you close to 100% usable capacity, charges far faster, and lasts for the life of the motorhome. For the broader context, the motorhome battery guide covers the fundamentals, and the motorhome brands hub lists every make we have covered.

Sizing a Roller Team by range

A starting point by model group. Factory fit is typically a single 90Ah to 110Ah lead-acid, so even a like-for-like lithium delivers far more usable power because you can use almost all of it.

RangeHow it gets usedGood fit
Kronos / Livingstone (compact)Compact coachbuilt, tighter lockers - measure carefully Touring to short off-grid stays 120Ah to 180Ah
Zefiro / Auto-Roller (Ford Transit coachbuilt)Hi-line, lo-line and standard coachbuilt on Ford Transit Touring to extended off-grid 150Ah to 230Ah
T-Line (Fiat Ducato coachbuilt)Full coachbuilt on Fiat Ducato, generous locker space Touring to extended off-grid 150Ah to 230Ah
Pegaso (Fiat Ducato A-class)Flagship A-class, largest lockers, biggest onboard loads Touring to sustained off-grid, inverter use 180Ah to 230Ah

These are starting points, not fixed rules. The honest figure comes from your own loads, not the range name, so total them in the battery size calculator. Battery locker and tray dimensions vary by model year and specification, so measure your space - including terminal height - before ordering. For larger banks you can run matched packs in parallel where the locker allows.

Where the leisure battery lives in a Roller Team

Battery location varies across the Roller Team range, but the two most common positions are:

  • Under a cab seat. Many Roller Team coachbuilts site the leisure battery in a tray under one of the cab seats, most often the passenger side. The low, flat TITAN DIN case is designed for exactly this, keeping the centre of gravity down and clearing the seat frame. On compact Kronos layouts the under-seat space can be tight - it varies by layout, so measure carefully before ordering and include the height to the seat base.
  • In a habitation locker or external garage. Zefiro, T-Line and Pegaso layouts often position the battery in a locker on the habitation side or in the underslung garage, where there is room to mount a DC-DC charger and fusing alongside it. This is typically the more straightforward home for a 180Ah or above.

The TITAN case is sealed to IP67, so it handles damp and road dust in an underfloor or locker position without issue. The RJ45 comms ports drop to IP32 while a cable is connected, so keep any plugged port clear of standing water. Locker dimensions and tray sizes vary by model year and specification - measure your battery space, including terminal height, before ordering rather than relying on a brochure figure.

Charging a Roller Team from alternator, solar and mains

A Roller Team charges its leisure battery from three sources: the engine alternator while driving, roof solar through an MPPT, and the mains charger on hook-up. Lithium takes all three faster than the lead-acid or AGM it replaces, so a decent motorway run or a sunny afternoon puts real capacity back rather than a slow overnight trickle.

Both the Ford Transit (Mk8, 2014 onwards) and the Fiat Ducato run variable-voltage smart alternators on their current Euro 6 engines. A smart alternator will not reliably fill a lithium battery on its own. The fix is a DC-DC charger, also called a battery-to-battery charger, wired between the starter battery and the leisure bank. We would fit a Victron Orion every time - it gives the lithium a clean, controlled charge and protects the starter battery from being drawn down. A standard split-charge relay does work and some older Roller Teams already have one, but it is not the most reliable way to charge lithium and some relays cause a backfeed that quietly skims around the top 15% off your usable capacity.

Plan the roof with the solar sizing guide, check your existing charger against the compatibility list, and size the battery around the gap your charging sources cannot cover overnight. Every TITAN carries a custom BMS, charges safely down to -30C, and comes with a lifetime, fully transferable warranty.

Common questions

What size lithium battery do I need for my Roller Team motorhome?
It depends on the range and how you use it. Compact Kronos and Livingstone models typically fit 120Ah to 180Ah well, depending on whether you mostly tour on hook-up or spend nights off-grid. Zefiro, Auto-Roller and T-Line coachbuilts suit 150Ah to 230Ah. The Pegaso A-class suits 180Ah to 230Ah and has the locker space to carry it comfortably. The factory fit is usually a single 90Ah to 110Ah lead-acid, so even a like-for-like lithium gives you far more usable power because you can use almost all of it. Total your own loads in the battery size calculator for the honest figure.
Is my Roller Team a Ford Transit or a Fiat Ducato?
The current (2026) UK range splits cleanly: Zefiro, Auto-Roller and Kronos are built on the Ford Transit 2.0 EcoBlue, while T-Line, Pegaso and Livingstone are built on the Fiat Ducato. If you are buying used, note that pre-2020 Zefiro and Auto-Roller models were sometimes offered on either Ford or Fiat, so check the actual chassis plate rather than assuming from the model name alone.
Do I need a DC-DC charger to charge lithium on a Roller Team?
Yes, on any current Roller Team. Both the Ford Transit (Mk8, 2014 onwards) and the Fiat Ducato run variable-voltage smart alternators that will not reliably fill a lithium battery directly from the engine. A DC-DC charger such as a Victron Orion gives the leisure bank a clean, controlled charge without drawing down the starter battery. Older Roller Teams on earlier engines with conventional alternators are less likely to need one, but a DC-DC unit is always the cleaner solution. Check the charger compatibility list before buying.
Where is the leisure battery on a Roller Team motorhome?
Most commonly under one of the cab seats - typically the passenger side - or in a habitation locker or underslung garage, depending on the model and layout. On compact Kronos models the under-seat space varies by layout and can be particularly tight, so measure your battery tray carefully - including height to the lid or seat base - and allow clearance for the terminals before ordering.
Can I replace my Roller Team's factory lead-acid battery with a lithium drop-in?
In most cases yes. Roller Team uses standard DIN-format battery trays, and a TITAN lithium is built around the same footprint. The main checks are: measure your tray including height for terminal clearance; set any solar controller or mains charger to a lithium profile; and fit a DC-DC charger for alternator charging if you have not already. The charger compatibility list covers which units work with lithium out of the box.
How much battery does a Roller Team Pegaso A-class need?
The Pegaso is the largest and best-equipped Roller Team in the UK range, so it has both the appetite for power and the locker space to carry a decent bank. For regular touring with heating, water pump and a fridge, 180Ah is a comfortable starting point. For extended off-grid stays or inverter use, 230Ah gives you the reserve to avoid running low. The larger lockers on an A-class also make it straightforward to mount a DC-DC charger and solar MPPT alongside the battery.
