Custom Engineering & Bespoke Lithium Solutions

We don’t just ship standard leisure & marine batteries in boxes. TITAN® works with vehicle builders, OEMs, universities and specialised industries who need lithium systems engineered, certified and delivered for very specific use cases – we've already supplied custom builds to military, power stations, marine logistics & university customers.

We can customise & build:

  • off-range physical battery sizes
  • custom BMS parameters
  • special BMS programs
  • CANBUS/RS485 logic

The projects below are a small sample of the one-off and high-spec work we support alongside our core product range.

TITAN 120Ah lithium batteries shipped to Barbados

Barbados export – 40 × TITAN 120Ah

Export shipment · Caribbean · Dangerous goods logistics

Challenge: Move around forty 12.8V 120Ah lithium batteries from the UK to Barbados on a tight deadline, fully compliant with dangerous-goods rules, without anything getting stuck in customs or abused in transit.

What we did: We handled the battery side end-to-end – packing configuration, DG-compliant packaging and labels, and the documentation the freight forwarder needed. The customer had one supplier responsible for the product and the paperwork, not a blame game between a battery vendor and a shipper.

Result: The full shipment cleared and landed on time, with zero damage and no paperwork drama, ready to drop straight into service. It shows we’re set up to ship serious volumes of lithium safely worldwide – not just sell the odd leisure battery in the UK.

Cold weather TITAN battery pack

British Antarctic Survey — custom capacity, custom BMS & heater parameters

Export shipment · EU & Asia · Special BMS & heater parameters

Challenge: Build 20Ah and 7Ah batteries for remote mountain survey equipment across Europe & Asia. Requirements:

  • complies with airline rules for hand-luggage transport (for 7Ah units – 100Wh maximum)
  • low self-discharge rate while active
  • able to charge from a 20W solar panel and power internal heater mats sufficiently
  • extra thermal insulation in any gaps within the battery case
  • technical backup and advice on batteries & solar charging equipment

Our Response: We coordinated with our factory to engineer a custom BMS and heater program that delivered on all requirements:

  • 7Ah battery size under 100Wh for air-luggage transport
  • BMS customised for ultra-low energy consumption
  • BMS heater program customised to draw power from charge input only
  • cell heater mats customised to ensure optimal performance at low wattage
  • added thermal insulation inside the battery cases during assembly

Outcome: Batteries delivered on time and exported to survey mountain-top locations across Europe and Asia. All batteries are still in use and performing exceptionally well in −30°C environments, allowing survey equipment to remain active with 1–2 maintenance visits a year.

TITAN military pouch cell

Confidential military application — custom pouch cell with strip BMS

Military application · UK · Special pouch cell & custom BMS

Challenge: Match a discontinued Kokam NCM 3.7V 2Ah lithium pouch cell with a built-in strip BMS/PCM for military equipment.

Our Response: Initial contact with Kokam led to us having to source the original manufacturing specification as well as the original BMS/PCM board parameters and settings. The cell was no longer produced (and no equivalents were available from other manufacturers), so we requested original cells from the customer, examined them, and worked with our engineers to produce a small batch of cells with a custom BMS matched to the original specifications.

Outcome: Supplied the customer with higher-capacity cells of 3.2Ah with a matched strip BMS, allowing a drop-in replacement solution. We also added two new BMS protections – charge and discharge over-current – to meet modern safety expectations. All cells were delivered with MSDS, CE and UN38.3 test reports to comply with both general and our own safety standards.

Nuclear power site cooling towers

Nuclear power site — custom 24V battery with no Bluetooth radio

Energy generation sector · UK · Special 24V battery & custom BMS parameters

Challenge: Due to strict rules around radio-emitting devices on nuclear power sites, we were asked to supply our 24V 230Ah battery with no Bluetooth installed. As the application device was unmanned, the BMS also needed to be as efficient as possible in order to go long stretches without charge.

Our Response: Our publicly offered 24V 230Ah battery is made with all the BMS functions and features installed as standard, which makes it difficult to turn off individual parts. We therefore created a 24V battery with a low-powered BMS that had no Bluetooth module, and removed active balance and CANBUS comms. Because the customer was on a tight deadline, we produced a smaller 24V 105Ah version (still providing enough energy storage for the application) so we could ship via air freight.

Outcome: We engineered a custom BMS that does not have Bluetooth, active cell balance or CANBUS comms, but still includes heater mats for the cells so the battery can be charged safely in winter conditions.

Ocean tanker at sea

Confidential marine project — complete custom 24V system with custom BMS logic (ongoing)

Marine application · Global · Custom everything

Challenge: Our biggest and longest project yet: creating a new 24V battery system and BMS logic that is able to self-back up from another battery bank in a marine environment.

Our Response: We have created a new 24V battery and BMS with a custom logic program installed that is capable of communicating with another battery in parallel, so when the primary battery fails or has a problem, the secondary detects and activates. The battery is in a custom metal sheet case due to space constraints in the container and includes multiple secondary BMS systems for maintenance and usability.

The batteries also need to communicate with Victron equipment with remote monitoring, so we have supported the customer in building their own protocol table to read battery data.

Samples have been produced and delivered, and are being stress-tested directly by the customer.

Outcome: Project ongoing.
