Rather than make you read every clause
Plain-English summary
- Leisure & marine batteries - lifetime, fully transferrable. Minimum 3,000 cycles or until fully-charged capacity drops below 80% of original. See the lifetime warranty explainer for plain-English context.
- Chargers - 5 years from delivery.
- TITAN Labs starter batteries - 8 years from delivery, plus a 60-day fit-check return window if your vehicle's ECU rejects the pack (£15 maximum shipping deduction).
- Same build standard across the whole range - Labs batteries are made to the same factory spec sheet, with the same UN 38.3, CE and UKCA regulatory passes as our leisure range.
- Labs is a prototype range - the fit decision is yours. Pre-sale guidance from us ("we think it'll work") is not a compatibility warranty. We are not liable for damage to your vehicle, recovery costs, missed journeys or other indirect loss if a Labs pack does not work in your specific install. The 60-day fit-check return is the remedy. Full legal terms in clause 4.2.
- Repair-first for all ranges. We open the pack and replace the failed module rather than scrap a whole battery.
- Testing is done by us, in Cheltenham. We don't accept third-party tests.
- Doesn't cover wear and tear, abuse, water/impact damage, incorrect charging, or modifications.
- Statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
1. About this document
1.1 - This document sets out the warranty cover that TITAN Lithium provides on the products we manufacture and sell. It applies to every battery and charger purchased through www.titanlithium.co.uk, our trade portal, or any authorised TITAN dealer.
1.2 - These warranty terms are in addition to the full Terms & Conditions of Sale on our main T&C page. Where the two documents overlap on warranty matters, the more detailed clause in this document applies. Everything else is governed by the T&C.
1.3 - We update this document from time to time. The current version is always at titanlithium.co.uk/pages/warranty-terms. The warranty in force on the date you placed your order applies to your purchase.
2. Who provides the warranty
2.1 - All TITAN Lithium product warranties are provided by Groves Batteries Ltd, trading as TITAN Lithium. Groves Batteries Ltd is registered in England and Wales under company number 05699836, with registered office at Lypiatt Street, Tivoli, Cheltenham, GL50 2UB. VAT registration 366228148. The parent group has been trading in batteries since 1948.
2.2 - All warranty claims and correspondence should be addressed to info@titanlithium.co.uk, or by post to the registered office above.
2.3 - Any reference in this document to "we", "us", "TITAN" or "TITAN Lithium" is a reference to Groves Batteries Ltd in its capacity as the warranty provider.
3. Standard product warranties
3.1 Lifetime warranty - leisure & marine batteries
For batteries sold with a lifetime warranty (our 80, 120, 130, 150, 180, 230, 260Ah leisure and marine batteries), we warrant the product against manufacturing faults for the life of the battery. The plain-English explainer for this cover is on the Lifetime Warranty page; the clauses below are the binding text.
"Lifetime" refers to the product's lifetime, not the user's. The warranty is fully transferrable; if you sell the vehicle, vessel or installation the battery goes with, the cover transfers to the new owner. There is no registration form, portal log-in or warranty card; retain the original order number and the cover follows the battery.
The warranty covers a minimum of 3,000 charge/discharge cycles (one full charge plus one full discharge = one cycle), or until the battery's fully-charged capacity drops below 80% of the original rated capacity due to wear and tear, whichever happens first.
Capacity loss is a normal characteristic of lithium cells and is related to cycle count and age. With normal in-spec use, expect roughly 5-10% capacity loss per decade. We consider anything less than 80% of original rated capacity unsuitable for the application the battery was sold for; below that threshold the warranty is considered void on capacity-loss grounds. The 80% threshold is a guideline applied to each claim on its facts - if a manufacturing defect has caused the battery to degrade faster than the customer's usage warrants, the claim remains in cover.
The lifetime warranty covers the components that make up the battery, including BMS failure, internal cell defects (internal shorts, assembly faults, premature failure), and any internal accessory modules fitted at build (heater mats and the Bluetooth radio, where applicable). It does not cover normal capacity loss, user damage, or any of the exclusions in clause 5.
3.2 5-year warranty - chargers
All TITAN-branded chargers carry a 5-year warranty from the date of delivery, covering manufacturing defects.
3.3 8-year limited warranty - TITAN Labs starter batteries
The TITAN Labs starter range (LFP-80-S, LFP-105-S, LFP-150-S) carries an 8-year limited warranty from delivery, on a repair-first basis. The Labs warranty is module-based and transferrable. The full Labs-specific terms - including the 60-day fit-check return window - are in clause 4 below.
3.4 Cover begins on delivery
Warranty cover begins on the date the product is delivered to you, as recorded on the dispatch confirmation. For warranty claims, please retain proof of purchase.
3.5 Repair-first policy
Every TITAN product is built to be repaired rather than replaced. If a warranty claim is valid, we will normally repair the failed module and return the original pack to you. We will only replace the entire product where repair is not technically feasible. The warranty on a repaired or replaced product continues to run from the original date of delivery; it is not renewed.
4. TITAN Labs - additional warranty terms
This clause applies in addition to clauses 3.3 and 5, only to TITAN Labs starter batteries. Where this clause is inconsistent with the general warranty terms, this clause governs Labs purchases.
Labs clause 4.1
Build standard & regulatory compliance
Every TITAN Labs battery is built to the same factory spec sheet as our leisure range. Same cell grading, same hand-built pack assembly, and the same end-pack QC process in Cheltenham - each unit passes through our final inspection and check process before it leaves the bay.
Every Labs battery carries the same regulatory test passes as the leisure range, including UN 38.3 lithium-battery transport certification, CE marking, and UKCA marking. The 8-year limited warranty under clause 4.3 reflects caution about in-vehicle field data only; it is not a reduction in build, cell or compliance standard.
Labs clause 4.2
Acknowledgement of prototype status & buyer's responsibility
4.2.1 - Prototype status acknowledged. The TITAN Labs range is offered, and is sold, as a research-led prototype starter battery range. While every Labs unit is manufactured and tested to the standards described in clause 4.1, the use case - a LiFePO4 starter battery replacing the original lead-acid pack in a wide variety of road and marine vehicles - is one where ECU firmware, charging-system behaviour and vehicle electronics differ substantially from one platform to the next, and from one firmware revision to the next. We are openly gathering long-term in-vehicle field data on the range. By purchasing a TITAN Labs product you acknowledge that it is offered on this basis.
4.2.2 - Buyer's responsibility for fitness for the vehicle. You, the buyer (and any installer acting on your behalf), are solely responsible for confirming, before purchase and before fitting, that the specific vehicle - make, model, model year, ECU revision, alternator, regulator, charging system and any auxiliary or aftermarket electrical equipment - is suitable for use with a LiFePO4 starter battery, and is suitable for the specific TITAN Labs model selected. Where you proceed with a purchase, the product is to that extent supplied to your specification within the meaning of clause 16.2(6) of our main Terms & Conditions and clause 5(6) of this document.
4.2.3 - Pre-sale guidance is not a warranty of compatibility. Any guidance, recommendation, comment, opinion, suggestion or general indication of likely compatibility provided by TITAN Lithium, Groves Batteries Ltd or any of their staff before purchase - including (without limitation) statements such as "we think this will work", "we have customers running this on similar vehicles" or any similar wording, whether given in email, on the phone, in webchat, on social media or in person - is provided as informal guidance only. It is not a contractual warranty, guarantee, representation, condition or assurance of compatibility with your specific vehicle or installation. You may not rely on it as such, and it cannot be used as evidence that TITAN Lithium claimed or guaranteed 100% compatibility. No statement made by TITAN Lithium in pre-sale correspondence forms part of the contract of sale unless expressly recorded in writing as a contractual term and accepted in writing by an authorised officer of Groves Batteries Ltd.
4.2.4 - Limitation of liability for Labs-specific downstream effects. Subject only to clause 4.2.5 (matters that cannot be excluded by law) and your statutory rights as a consumer (clause 8 below), neither TITAN Lithium nor Groves Batteries Ltd shall be liable to any buyer, installer or third party in respect of a TITAN Labs product for any of the following heads of loss, whether arising in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty, misrepresentation or otherwise:
- Damage to the vehicle, vessel or installation in which the Labs product is fitted, or to any other equipment connected to or supplied by it - including (without limitation) the ECU, alternator, regulator, wiring loom, infotainment, telematics, body control modules and any auxiliary or aftermarket electronics - whether or not the installation itself was carried out correctly;
- Recovery, breakdown, towing, transport, accommodation, taxi, hire-car, missed-journey, missed-appointment or rescue costs incurred because the Labs product did not perform as expected in the buyer's specific vehicle;
- Loss of use of the vehicle, loss of journey, loss of time, loss of business, loss of profit, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill or loss of data;
- Any consequential, indirect, special or punitive loss or damage of any kind.
For the avoidance of doubt, our maximum aggregate liability for any Labs product, subject to clause 4.2.5, remains as set out in clause 9.3 (repair, replacement or refund at our option), and the 60-day fit-check return window in clause 4.4 is the principal commercial remedy offered where a Labs product genuinely cannot be used in the buyer's vehicle.
4.2.5 - What this clause does not exclude. Nothing in this clause 4.2 limits or excludes:
- Our liability under clause 9.2 - in particular death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; defective products under the Consumer Protection Act 1987; breach of the terms implied by section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979; or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded;
- Your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in relation to a Labs product that is itself defective in materials, workmanship or build (which remain dealt with under clauses 3, 4.1, 5 and 8 of this document); or
- Your right to the repair, replacement or refund remedies available under the 8-year limited warranty in clauses 3.3 and 4.3 of this document.
Labs clause 4.3
Why the warranty is 8 years, not lifetime
Labs is a small, research-led starter range. The BMS over-voltage protection is deliberately set at 15V pack / 3.75V per cell rather than the tighter 14.6V/3.65V that typical lithium starters use. This sits inside any regulated alternator's output, prevents false trips and panel errors, and trades a small amount of cell life against vehicle compatibility. Vehicle use is also harsher than the leisure-use field data that backs the lifetime cover on the main range. Until we have a decade of in-vehicle Labs field data, we are not making a lifetime claim. 8 years from delivery, full module-based repair cover.
Labs clause 4.4
60-day fit-check return window
Some vehicles - especially newer petrols with smart alternators, regenerative braking and stop/start systems - have ECU firmware that refuses to accept anything other than the original OEM lead-acid specification. We test against a wide range of common platforms but we cannot guarantee every vehicle on every firmware revision (see clause 4.2.3).
For Labs batteries only, we offer a 60-day fit-check return window from the date of delivery. If your vehicle's charging system or ECU genuinely will not accept the Labs pack - charging-system fault that won't clear, persistent dashboard warning that wasn't present before, or a documented ECU rejection - you may return the battery to us under this window.
Returns under this window are subject to a maximum shipping deduction of £15 from your refund. Our actual courier collection cost is typically £20-£25; we cap your contribution at £15 and absorb the rest. The return remedy is the buyer's principal remedy in respect of vehicle-compatibility issues; clause 4.2.4 sets out the matters for which we cannot be held additionally liable.
This window is for vehicle-compatibility issues only. It does not extend the standard 14-day consumer cancellation right (clause 11 of our T&C) for change-of-mind returns, nor does it apply where the battery has been damaged, modified or used outside its intended purpose. We will ask for the fitter's notes, fault codes, or a brief written statement of the issue when you start a return under this clause.
Labs clause 4.5
Additional Labs exclusions
In addition to the general exclusions in clause 5, the Labs warranty does not cover:
- Sustained charging above 15V pack / 3.75V per cell. Some older external chargers run equalisation cycles above this; our BMS will log it. Use a TITAN-recommended profile or set your charger to lithium.
- Reverse polarity events recorded by the BMS.
- Wear beyond rated cycle life after 8 years of typical service.
- Indirect or consequential loss - see clause 4.2.4 for the full Labs-specific exclusion of downstream damage, recovery, rescue and consequential loss. Insure the vehicle separately.
5. What the warranty does not cover
The warranty in clauses 3 and 4 above does not apply to any defect in the product arising from:
- Fair wear and tear.
- Wilful damage, abnormal storage or working conditions, accident, or negligence by you or any third party.
- Failure to operate or use the product in accordance with the user instructions or its intended normal use.
- Any addition or modification to the product.
- Any alteration or repair by you or by a third party who is not one of our authorised repairers.
- Any specification provided by you.
These exemptions also include, and are not limited to:
- Damage due to improper installation: loose terminal connections, under-sized cabling, incorrect series or parallel connections where not specifically supported, short circuits, or reverse polarity connections.
- Damage caused by incorrect charging: the use of unsupported lead-acid-only chargers, or charging at a voltage or current that exceeds the recommended parameters.
- Environmental damage: inappropriate storage conditions, exposure to extreme hot or cold temperatures, fire, freezing, or water damage.
- Damage caused by collision or impact.
- Damage due to improper maintenance: under- or over-charging the product, dirty terminal connections, etc.
- Products that have been opened, modified or tampered with outside of TITAN's authorised repair process.
- Products that were used for applications other than those they were designed and intended for.
- Products that were used on over-sized loads, or that were under-sized for the application.
- Products not stored in adherence to our storage guidelines, including storage at low state of charge, at 100% state of charge for prolonged periods, at ambient temperatures exceeding 40°C, or on a continual float charge.
6. How to make a warranty claim
6.1 - To start a claim, email info@titanlithium.co.uk with the following:
- Your order number or proof of purchase.
- A description of the fault, including any error codes or BMS messages.
- For Labs claims under clause 4.4, the vehicle make, model, year, and any fitter notes or fault codes available.
- Photos or short videos where relevant.
6.2 - We will usually respond within one working day. For most issues we can diagnose remotely first - many faults that look like product failure turn out to be charger settings or DIP-switch configuration and can be resolved without returning the product.
6.3 - Where the product needs to come back for testing, we may offer to arrange courier collection at no cost to you. This is not guaranteed; if shipping costs make a free collection unviable, we will work with you on a reasonable compromise (for example, a 50/50 share of the collection cost). For Labs returns under the 60-day fit-check window (clause 4.4), the £15 cap on your contribution applies regardless of actual courier cost.
6.4 - Where you request that we collect a faulty product or arrange on-site testing, we may charge an inspection fee of £30.00 + VAT. This fee is waived at our discretion, and is refunded in full if the fault is found to be covered by warranty.
7. Testing & repair-first policy
7.1 - All warranty testing is carried out by TITAN Lithium at our Cheltenham facility. We do not accept third-party tests for warranty claims. This is to maintain consistency in test conditions and to allow us to inspect the cells and BMS directly.
7.2 - Testing can take a minimum of 48 hours from the date the product arrives back with us. Where a claim is valid, we will normally attempt to repair the issue rather than replace the whole product. Repairs can take a minimum of one week to complete, depending on parts lead time.
7.3 - During the testing and repair period, TITAN Lithium is not liable for any loss of use, loss of profit, or any indirect or consequential loss.
7.4 - For capacity-based claims under clause 3.1 (lifetime warranty), the valid capacity test is performed by TITAN Lithium under controlled discharge conditions. A general-purpose meter, BMS report, or third-party tester is not a valid capacity test for the purposes of this warranty.
7.5 - Where a valid warranty claim is settled by replacement rather than repair, the warranty on the replacement product runs from the original date of delivery of the original product, not from the date of the replacement.
8. Your statutory rights as a consumer
8.1 - If you are a consumer, this warranty is in addition to, and does not affect, your statutory legal rights in relation to products that are faulty or not as described. Advice about your statutory rights is available from your local Citizens' Advice Bureau or Trading Standards office.
8.2 - In particular, your right to return a faulty product under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, and your right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, are unaffected by anything in this document. Those rights are dealt with in clauses 11 and 16 of our main Terms & Conditions.
8.3 - The 60-day Labs fit-check return window in clause 4.4, and the limitations of liability in clause 4.2, are commercial terms offered alongside the warranty. They are in addition to your statutory rights as a consumer and do not limit those rights. Clause 4.2 in particular does not affect your rights in respect of a Labs product that is itself defective in materials, workmanship or build (see clause 8.1).
9. Liability
9.1 - TITAN Lithium and our parent company Groves Batteries Ltd cannot be held liable for:
- Damage, injury or death resulting from the use of our products outside their intended purpose.
- Possible errors in the included manual and the consequences thereof.
- Use that is inconsistent with the purpose of the product.
9.2 - Nothing in this document or our main T&C limits or excludes our liability for: death or personal injury caused by our negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; breach of the terms implied by section 12 of the Sale of Goods Act 1979 (title and quiet possession); or defective products under the Consumer Protection Act 1987.
9.3 - Subject to clause 9.2, our liability under this warranty in respect of any one product is limited to the repair, replacement, or refund (at our option) of that product. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of data, or downstream damage to vehicles, vessels, or installations into which the product is fitted.
9.4 - TITAN Labs products in particular. In respect of any TITAN Labs starter battery, the Labs-specific exclusion of liability in clause 4.2 (and its sub-clauses 4.2.1 to 4.2.5) applies in addition to this clause 9. Where the two clauses overlap, the broader exclusion applies. For the avoidance of doubt, clause 4.2 was drawn to the buyer's attention before purchase via the warranty disclosure on the Labs warranty page and via this document, and the buyer is taken to have accepted it as a condition of sale.
10. Governing law & updates
10.1 - This warranty is governed by the laws of England and Wales. You and we both agree that the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising under or in connection with this warranty. If you are a consumer resident in the EU, you also have the protection of any mandatory provisions of the law of your country of residence.
10.2 - We may amend this warranty document from time to time to reflect changes in our products, the law, or our internal processes. We will publish updates at titanlithium.co.uk/pages/warranty-terms with a revised "last updated" date. The version of the warranty in force on the date of your order continues to apply to that order.
10.3 - If any clause of this document is found to be unlawful or unenforceable, that clause is severed and the remaining clauses continue in full force and effect.
